Sasol is looking for young, talented and ambitious pupils who got at least 80% in maths, 70% in science and 60% in English to apply for their bursary programme to study engineering, science or accounting at the university of their choice next year.
Monica Luwes, manager of the graduate centre at Sasol Corporate Bursary Services, says they have for the past 30 years been giving the top performing pupils bursaries to study in the fields of maths and science.
“Our company understands that students’ academic success takes more than just paying the costs of their studies.
“By giving them emotional, intellectual and other support such as personal attention, career support as well as life guidance, helps make sure that they succeed,” said Monica.
Bursary applications are now open and close on 30 April.
The bursary programme covers the bursars’ tuition fees, accommodation, meals, textbooks and even some pocket money.
Successful applicants will also receive performance-based awards and allowances for laptops or other study tools like calculators.
The bursars will also have the opportunity to do vacation work during the school holidays in order to be part of the company’s graduate development programme once they completed their studies.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them.
“Our aim is to give pupils the peace of mind by taking care of all their education needs and related costs,” she said.
Monica said the bursars also have the opportunity to start and build their careers at Sasol, which has operations in Sasolburg in the Free State, and Secunda in Mpumalanga.
Last year, the company invested R79,6 million in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education as part of its investment in programmes that address South Africa’s critical skills shortage.
