HUMAN resources needs you!

Not only does Mzansi need skilled human resources professionals, but so does the rest of the world.

SunEducation spoke to Precious Nkwenzi, who recently completed a human resources (HR) management course at the Eskilz College in North Riding.

“My parents could not afford to send me to university but I was awarded a bursary from Eskilz. Almost immediately after I qualified I was able to find a great job.”

Now taking care of her mum and two siblings, she is grateful for the opportunity.

Precious encouraged others to consider a career in HR.

A career in HR is multi-dimensional and highly rewarding – a junior HR practitioners can earn up to R800 000 a year.

Mzansi is in need of skilled HR people to improve governance, raise industry standards and most of all boost job creation.

Kamal Timmal, from Eskilz College said an HR career is important in aligning employees’ goals to the organisation’s mission and objectives.

He said the answer to the shortage of HR people in the country is youth.

“The future lies with youth of today. It is our obligation to make sure that we do everything that we can to prepare them enough to tackle the challenges of the future. I would also caution new students to be vigilant and make sure that training institutions are properly accredited before they register for any studies – especially a course in HR,” he said.

Before registering to study HR at a tertiary institution, get answers to these important questions:

  • Is the college nationally accredited by the South African Board for People Practices?
  • Is the institution compliant with regards to laws such as the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Labour Relations Act?
  • Does the institution follow the codes of good practice with regards to all disciplinary issues?
  • Does the institution follow proper policies and procedures which are enforced for monitoring and compliancy of work rules and laws?
