NEXT week, on 16 June, mzansi celebrates a day of powerful history.

16 June 1976 was the day when children from Soweto schools were killed for protesting the order to use Afrikaans as the language of education. From there, the uprising spread across South Africa until the following year.

Life@40 and Beyond, an organisation founded by Terry Mokoena, organises trips to different places every Youth Day.

“Whether in school uniform or not, we must all go out and celebrate this day.”

Life@40 and Beyond is planning to take people to Mogotsi Lifestyle Centre in Akasia, Pretoria. Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event.

There is transport which will take people from Maponya Mall in Soweto to Tshwane and back again. Transport cost is R100 a person. Departure is at 9am and return time is 6pm.

People can bring their own cooler boxes and the cover charge for entrance is R50 each. On the menu is mash, kota with mince, archaar, maotwana, snoek fish, mangola, white liver, special and French. Those who want to come must wear their school uniforms.
