FORMER Bafana Bafana captain and South African Football Association technical director, Neil Tovey, believes Ghana are well-placed to lift the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations crown in Gabon.

The Black Stars narrowly missed out to Ivory Coast two years ago on penalties.

Tovey said things could turn around well for Ghana this time.

They are in Group D along with Mali, Uganda and seven times record champions, Egypt.

Tovey credited the Black Stars for their consistency in reaching the finals for the last couple of editions.

Ghana are one of the successful teams in the continent’s soccer showpiece, having won it four times in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982.

They last tasted continental glory 35 years ago and hope to turn things around in Gabon.

The Black Stars open their Afcon campaign against Uganda on Tuesday at Stade de Port Gentil (6pm), while Mali and Egypt feature in the last game of the double-header at the same venue (9pm).
