IT’S been five seasons since we last had a player who scored more than 15 goals in the Absa Premiership.

Veteran AmaZulu striker Siyabonga Nomvethe was the last player in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to pass the 15 goal mark as he scored 20 goals during the 2011/12 season while he was still playing for Moroka Swallows.

Although Baroka FC midfielder Gift Motupa managed to get 18 goals in two seasons with Bakgaga FC while still playing in the National First Division (NFD), he feels that with more game time, he can regain his scoring appetite.

Motupa, who is on loan from Orlando Pirates, has found the back of the net on four occasions for the Ga-Mphahlele-based outfit.

Mutupa said: “I’m still in the process of improving as a player. Last season I was not a regular and now I’m working on my way back to being a regular feature here at Baroka.”

Motupa will be hoping to continue banging in the goals when the league resumes on Tuesday night. Bakgaga, who are on top of the log, host Golden Arrows in a top of the table clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night (7.30pm).

In the goalscoring charts, Motupa is tied on four goals with Polokwane City hitman Rodney Ramagalela.
