TOP runner Kesa Molotsane hasn’t even received her big payout for winning the Spar Ladies Grand Prix Series, yet people are already asking her what she’ll do with the money.
Money is the least of the middle distance specialist’s worries at the moment, as she faces a backlog of the school work she missed as a result of being away.
Molotsane stands to be officially crowned the Grand Prix champion at Marks Park Sports Club in Emmerentia, Joburg, on 8 October.
And that’s if she bags a top 20 finish in the last leg of the race.
The Grand Prix is a series of six races ran in six provinces: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Pretoria and Jozi. The overall leader on points wins the title.
Molotsane leads the board with 137 points, Ivertte van Zyl is second with 116, while Nolene Condrad is third with 87 points.
A student at the Free State University, Molotsane is working hard to catch up on her studies, and the Grand Prix is the last thing on her mind.
Said Molotsane: “People are asking me what I’ll do with the money. But I haven’t even won it yet.
“I still have to run the last race in Joburg. After the series is over, I’ll see what to do with it. But for now, my focus is on exams and catching up on the work I missed.”
Molotsane was in Taiwan for the World Student Games last month.
She’s run five Spar Ladies Series and won three. The 5 000m and 10 000m specialist dreams of one day representing her country at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.
