FREE State Stars will name their new head coach at the weekend.
But he will not be a local. General manager Rantsi Mokoena confirmed yesterday that a successor to replace the axed Frenchman Denis Lavagne had been found.
The unpopular Lavagne was fired last Thursday after the relationship between the coach, players and management broke down.
The club is now waiting until the paperwork has been completed before making the announcement.
Stand-in coach Themba Sithole will be in charge of tomorrow night’s important Absa Premiership showdown with Kaizer Chiefs at Orkney’s James Motlatsi Stadium (7.30pm).
The new coach will take charge of the next fixture against Maritzburg United at Goble Park on 15 October after the Fifa break from 3-14 October.
Said Mokoena: “We will have a new coach by the end of the week and he will have time to settle in during the international break.”
He said there was a huge improvement in play in their 0-0 draw with highly fancied SuperSport United at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday after the departure of unpopular Lavagne.
Said Mokoena:“The performance differed like chalk from cheese after Lavagne left. I was very happy with the improvement. We need to continue that type of gutsy display against Chiefs.”
Mokoena said they had decided to play in Orkney’s 23 000-seater James Motlatsi Stadium to get in a bigger crowd: “The Orkney stadium is our alternate venue and we decided to make use of it for this match. We are expecting a massive crowd.”
- Tickets for the match are on sale at all Shoprite/Computicket outlets and cost R40 per adult.
