Phakamani Mahlambi has completed his move from Bidvest Wits to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Mahlambi, who helped the South Africa Under-23 team to qualify for the Rio Olympics joined Al Ahly on a four-year-deal.
Mahlambi jetted out to Cairo late on Wednesday evening in order to complete his medical prior to finalizing personal terms, after Wits accepted a $1.3-million (R16.7-million) bid from the Cairo based club.
He then completed his move on a deadline day (Thursday) night.
The Egyptian transfer window is only set to close on September 14, but their deadline for foreign transfers is midnight tonight 7 September.
The move comes shortly after Pharoahs striker Amr Gamal joined Bidvest Wits on a one-year loan from Al Ahly, becoming the first Egyptian to play in the PSL.
On Thursday evening, Wits tweeted: “Bidvest Wits confirms the permanent transfer of P. Mahlambi to CAF African Club of the Century, Al Ahly SC. Good luck and do us proud.
Tweet The KwaZulu-Natal born player had a trial at Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes recently, but no deal was concluded.
Mahlambi was also in negotiations with Mamelodi Sundowns, but the two clubs were unable to agree to terms.
