BIDVEST Wits striker Eleazar Rodgers says the two-week break was the remedy his side needed to overturn its disastrous start to the Absa Premiership season.
Wits face early pace setters Baroka FC in a league clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium today (3.30pm).
Coach Gavin Hunt had more time to fine-tune his charges, thanks to their league clash against SuperSport United last Tuesday being postponed.
The Tshwane side had to fulfil its commitment in the Caf Confederations Cup. As for Hunt’s side, The Clever Boys are in an unfamiliar position on the log, with five points from seven games leaving them in a second-from-the-bottom spot.
They have won only one league match this season, which came at the expense of rejuvenated Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, which they beat 1-0 at home on 23 September.
On the other hand, Baroka FC made the so-called football experts, who thought they’d battle relegation from the onset, eat humble pie.
Bakgaga have yet to lose this season. They’ve won four games and drawn the same number of matches.
And Rodgers knows Wits have a tough ask ahead of them if they are to overcome coach Kgoloko Thobejane’s very confident boys.
Said Rodgers: “It’s always difficult when you play them away. Baroka play good football and aren’t an easy side to beat. But we are ready to focus on the job at hand and grind for the three points.”
Elsewhere, Chippa United will face Cape Town City in another match at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.
