KAIZER Chiefs veteran Siphiwe Tshabalala and youngster Wiseman Meyiwa lead Amakhosi to their first victory of the season, ending Cape Town City’s 100 percent winning record with a 2-0 defeat.
It was a night of history for the 17-year-old Meyiwa who scored on his Chiefs debut to become the youngest debutant in club history, in a league match to score.
The Multichoice Diski challenge graduate, Meyiwa become the third young player for Chiefs to score on his debut, following the likes of Jabu Pule now known as Mahlangu as well as Mandla Masango who scored on their Chiefs debut.
Tshabalala scored the opening goal putting Chiefs ahead just after half-time but they had to weather a massive storm from the home side before Meyiwa sealed the victory for Amakhosi with a clinical strike.
It was also a historic night for defensive midfielder Willard Katsande who was playing his 200 match in the Gold and Black Colours. The 31-year-old, who joined Amakhosi from Ajax Cape Town in 2011, made his debut as a replacing Tshabalala in the MTN8 final of that year. He has since racked up 191 starts and a further seven substitute outings for the Soweto giants.
After five successive victories, City’s coach Benni McCarthy has finally tasted a defeat.
