BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic Ladies have successfully defended their Sasol League National Championships title after defeating Cape Town Roses 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, at Kabokweni Stadium in Nelspruit.
Roses could not match Celtic, as they were all over them especially in the second half of the encounter.
Celtic midfielder Melinda Kgadiete’s brace ensured that the Free State champions retain their title which comes with a whopping price of R200 000.
Boitumelo Rabale and Bambanani “Juice” Mbane were some of the influencial players for Celtic since Monday when the competition started.
The Bloemfontein based outfit is now making up for the past seven years where they were featured in the Championships but failed to make an impact.
The two teams went to break with a 0-0 score line. But Celtic when they came back they were stronger than the Cape based outfit as they found their first goal in 56 minutes when Kgadiete’s converts Thembakazi Ndlaphu’s header. On the 72 minute the 25-year-old Eastern Cape born Kgadiete completed her brace.
Roses tried to bounce back but they were under pressure as they made silly mistakes which saw them conceding a penalty in the last minutes of the match but Celtic striker Kgaelebane Mohlakoana couldn’t convert it.
