ARROGANT South African 800m champion, Caster Semenya, has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year category.
She is competing for the crown along with Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza and an all-American quartet.
The quartet comprise Australian Open champion Serena Williams, 16-time world athletics championship medalist Allyson Felix, 19-year-old swimming sensation Katie Ledecky and Overall World Cup champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin.
Semenya, three-time 800m world champion, declined to make any comments yesterday: “Morena this is not the right time. Call me later. Look, I am in the middle of training. Call me later tonight.”
That was before banging the phone down after distancing herself from being anywhere closer to her coach.
The Laureus World Sports Awards pits an impressive collection of the greatest men, women and teams in sport against each other following a ballot by the world’s sports media.
Tennis superstar Roger Federer’s impressive return to form after a knee injury, which saw him win his fifth Australian Open and eighth Wimbledon titles, sees him nominated in both the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and Laureus World Comeback of the Year categories.
In football, Cristiano Ronaldo is up against Sportsman of the Year along with Kylian Mbappé.
Votes can be cast at myLaureus.com until 26 February, with the winner announced at the awards in Monaco the following day.
