AMAZULU defender, Mbongeni Gumede, is wary of struggling
Mthatha Bucks.
He said they need to be sharp when they face them at the
Mthatha Stadium for their National First Division clash today (3.30pm).
Usuthu are flying high after they thrashed FC Cape Town
last week.
They have only lost one match this year to log leaders,
Baroka FC, and have been on a three-match winning streak since.
Gumede said this will make them more cautious of Bucks,
who are desperately looking to move away from relegation.
The rookies have only managed to collect 11 points, with
13 matches left in the season.
Said Gumede: “They will want to win at all costs because
we are AmaZulu, a big-name club and because we were playing in the PSL last
season.
“We’ve realised that everyone wants to beat us and prove
a point.
“It’s dangerous playing against a team like Bucks
because they have nothing to lose, but they could gain a lot more than just
points if they defeat us.
“They’re fighting for survival and want to do more.
We have to be careful and do our best. It’s going to
be a tough match,” he added.
The former Under-23 captain believes they still have a
chance at NFD glory.
AmaZulu have 28 points from the
17 round of games they have played this season.
17 round of games they have played this season.
He told SunSport: “Anything is possible. We want to collect points because we want to get closer to the top.
“I won’t say there’s pressure on us, but our goal is to
go back to top flight football.
“Every game we play is important in building to this
goal.” Gumede, who’s on a one-year loan from Orlando Pirates,
said he’s enjoying his time at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit .
He joined Steve Barker’s charges July last year.
