AFTER five games in charge at the “Team of Choice”, veteran Coach Clive Barker will no longer be shouting instructions from the United’s bench.

This after the club and the Coach decided to go their separate ways today.

Maritzburg United is currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier Soccer League with five points in eleven matches, with Barker having been in charge of five and secured four points out of a possible fifteen.

The Chairman of Maritzburg United, Farook Kadodia had this to say, “ I want to thank Clive for making himself available under very challenging circumstances. We had a meeting with the Coach and together felt that the task ahead is very difficult and therefore a strategic decision regarding the Club retaining its Premier Soccer League Status had to be made”

He continued and said “Clive has left a career legacy, but we believe that our current position only dictates that we need to grind results to take ourselves out of the dreaded position we find ourselves in. In his short stay we admired the Coach in that he had a vision and saw the need to give a guy like Mphakamiseni Nene an opportunity which he has grabbed with both hands. I wish the Coach all the best for the future.”

Clive Barker said he decided to resign to put the interests of the club ahead of his own. “I think the club is on track to turn things around. A special thanks to Fadlu Davids, he is one of the finest Assistant Coaches I have worked with. Thanks to everybody for a pleasant stay. I wish the club well for the rest of the season.”

Regarding the appointment of a new Coach, the Chairman said he will begin discussions immediately to seek a replacement.
