HE IS a sniper – a deadly finisher and the striker any coach in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) would love to have as part of his attacking pack.
Jeremy Brockie is the most sought after goal poacher in the PSL at the moment.
The New Zealand international is flattered by the interest Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and other clubs in the league have shown in him. But so committed to SuperSport United is Brockie that he has dismissed all rumours of him planning to leave Matsatsantsa a Pitori soon.
He has set himself the target of breaking the 20-goal barrier in the league’s goal-scoring charts this season. Siyabonga Nomvethe of AmaZulu still holds the record, the local having scored 20 goals in one season during the 2011-12 term.
Brockie will start his season against the team allegedly willing to break the bank to get him on board when United host city rivals Sundowns in the Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow (3pm).
Said Brockie: “I still have two years left on my contract with SuperSport, but I don’t want to leave South Africa without winning the league.
“Hopefully we will win the title this season. I just have to be professional against Sundowns, I paid by SuperSport to do my job and as long as I’m their player I am 100% committed to them. But I’m flattered by the interest in me, though.”
He went on: “That record of 20 goals has been standing for a while now and I would like to get closer to it as soon as possible – or break it.
“If I achieve that it would also mean SuperSport will have had a fantastic season.”
Brockie found the back of the net on eight occasions last season but insists that he wants to triple that tally in the new season.
He is clearly not happy with his own performance in the previous campaign: “I score goals and sometimes it’s hard to find a striker who can score on a regular basis. I offer to do that this season.
“I hope to contribute more league goals than I did last season. I want to start scoring goals in the league nice and early this season.”
Brockie just wants to enjoy the Tshwane derby and says he has nothing to prove and won’t go to any extra efforts in the clash only to impress the Brazilians head coach Pitso Mosimane.
