ACTING Premiership Soccer League (PSL) CEO Mato Madlala says they hope to finalise the issue of AmaZulu’s purchase of Thanda Royal Zulu’s franchise before the end of this week.
Madlala confirmed to SunSport that they have received the documents they requested from both AmaZulu and Thanda, and are ready to make their final ruling.
She said the documents were the reason why they could not make a decision on the deal between the two KwaZulu-Natal outfits last week.
With the documents at their disposal since the weekend they should be able to deliver the final verdict in no time.
Said Madlala: “It would be nice if we could finalise this issue in a day or two. We have the documents we requested and are looking into them.
“People should understand that the delay to process this was not from our side but from both teams.
“Once we are done processing these documents and we are happy with them, we will announce our final decision. But we won’t be rushed by anyone.”
Madlala was not willing to reveal the information in those documents. But according to a source close to the teams, the documents clarify the contracts of Thanda players as well as the money that has exchanged hands.
Said the source: “The league only wanted to make sure what would happen with the players who are still contracted to Thanda, as well as check that the transaction between the two clubs was done correctly. Once the league is happy with everything I don’t see why the deal shouldn’t be passed.”
When contacted by SunSport, Usuthu general manager Lunga Sokhela was not willing to talk about the deal. He said he would only discuss the matter once they hear from the league.
