NEWLY appointed Polokwane City caretaker coach Bernard Molekwa is working on a special plan to end their 12-game win-less run in the Absa Premiership.

Molekwa reckons their goalless draw with African champs Mamelodi Sundowns in a league clash at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday is a strong foundation to build on in their mission to cement their place in the top eight.

Molekwa was thrown in at the deep end following the resignation of coach Luc Eymael last week, who has joined Bloemfontein Celtic.

Said Molekwa: “We have now drawn our 12th game, which is not good. We are happy with the point, though. No one gave us a chance against the African champions, but I told our players not to worry about names. I am happy with their efforts.

“We want to improve on this, we need to start collecting maximum points.”

Molekwa revealed that telling his players not to worry about Eymael’s sudden departure was a good remedy to lift morale. City face their former coach in their next league match at Dr Molemela Stadium on 1 April.

He went on: “I told them we didn’t know why the coach left, it’s beyond our control. I said we all had jobs to do and theirs was to play football. That’s why they have contracts.

“‘So keep your eyes on the ball’, I said. It won’t be easy but we need to unite and pull in the same direction. Nothing is impossible if we work together.

“The motivational speech worked wonders against Downs.”

Molekwa said the experience he gained as understudy to other coaches would be vital to help City reach their target: “I have been in this game for a long time as an assistant.

“The chairman gave me this opportunity because he thought I could grow from this experience. I will do my best and give my everything to ensure we are a success.
