FOLLOWING a trophyless season Kaizer Chiefs are expected to be the busiest club during this transfer window in an effort to close the gaping holes left when they dropped 20 players.

There is pressure on Amakhosi to compete next season and attempt to wrestle the PSL title away from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Orlando Pirates did not make things easier for Chiefs when they signed quality in Abbubakar Mobara and Riyaad Norodien from Ajax Cape Town, and Bernard Morrison from DR Congo’s AS Vita Club.

Amakhosi have only confirmed one signing in Sibusiso Khumalo, which leaves the team with a squad of 17 players. Another 13 spots are still to be filled.

Chippa United have confirmed that Chiefs have shown interest in midfielder Joseph Malongoane and hope to sign him.

SunSport has reliably learnt that they have signed Ajax midfielder Bantu Mzwakali.

The 22-year-old joined the Urban Warriors as a youth product in 2008 and has been one of the club’s success stories, graduating from the development side to the first team.

A source close to the player revealed that Chiefs and Pirates were both interested in securing the youngster’s services.

The source said: “Chiefs and Pirates were both eyeing the player, but Chiefs made a fast move, beating out their rivals.

“Mzwakali signed a three-year deal with them on Friday, then flew back to Cape Town on Saturday.”

Mzwakali, meanwhile, acted surprised when SunSport contacted him: “Where did you get that? No, I didn’t sign with them. I still have a contract with Ajax. I was in Joburg for a holiday, not to go to Chiefs.”

) SunSport has further learnt that Bloemfontein Celtic winger Thapelo Morena has also signed with Amakhosi.
