HAVING suffered a fourth straight defeat, embattled Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen has turned to Hellings “Gabadinho” Mhango to score goals.
Larsen is concerned about the Lamontville side’s poor run of form lately.
Even the return of trusted veteran marksman Mabhudi Khenyeza in the match against Bidvest Wits at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday, failed to inspire the team.
Arrows lost 1-0 to Gavin Hunt’s title-chasing charges and Larsen again bemoaned the many missed chances, saying he hoped Mhango’s arrival would solve the scoring problem.
The stocky Malawian, who was the subject of a tug-of-war between Celtic and his new club Wits last month, started training with Arrows yesterday after signing a six-month loan deal.
Said Larsen: “If you check all the games we have lost, we have been dominant but failed to unlock the defence. I just think that we’re little bit thin in the No 10 role.
“We don’t have another player there. Khenyeza, Rodney Ramagalela and Mwape Musonda are out-and-out strikers. Kudakwashe Mahachi is not a No 10, he’s a winger, so it is a position where we’re lacking at the moment. Hopefully with Mhango coming in, we will improve.”
The defeat saw Arrows drop out of the top eight. They are now 10th in the table with 21 points after 17 matches.
Larsen is keeping his fingers crossed that all injured players will be back for selection before the tricky visit to Polokwane City on Saturday.
Defenders Chris Katjiukua, Thembela Sikhakhane, goalkeeper Philani Zikalala and midfielder Nkanyiso Cele are all nursing injuries.
