THE search for a new home continues for former SuperSport United midfielder David Mathebula.
Premier Soccer League strugglers Free State Stars and National First Division outfit Witbank Spurs have shown interest in the discarded Matsatsantsa a Pitori midfielder.
Mathebula is currently training on his own as he weighs up his options.
But he said he was optimistic that it was only a matter of time before he found a new home.
The Tshwane giants gave Mathebula his clearance in December with two years still remaining on his contract.
SuperSport coach Stuart Baxter was not happy with Mathebula’s fitness level and decided to let the former Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows player go as he failed to break into the starting line-up.
As a free agent Mathebula is not relying on the January transfer window to join a team of his choice.
Mathebula said: “For now I’m still training on my own. My agent is talking to a couple of teams and we will see what happens. I have a clearance in my hands and I don’t think that finding a team should be a problem.”
Mathebula said he was working hard to play regular football again at his next destination.
The 33-year-old Giyani born footballer insisted that he was in great condition and ready to find a place in a starting lineup.
He also was on the wanted list of Premiership rookies Baroka FC, but was not keen on the move.
Mathebula said: “I’m fit as a fiddle and have no issues. I have been taking good care of myself over the years and I’m in good condition.
“I still have a lot to offer on the pitch and my focus is to work hard to get regular game time.”
His search for his next club also entails getting a good pay cheque.
“Every player wants a good salary because football is a short term career, and I’m no different,” Mathebula added.
