KAIZER CHIEFS coach, Steve Komphela, has the mammoth task to lift his players’ morale in a bid to register their first win of the season.
Amakhosi’s Absa Premiership campaign got off to a nightmare start in Milpark on 23 August when they lost 2-1 to Bidvest Wits.
That was followed by a first round exit from the MTN8 Cup after a 1-0 loss to Cape Town City.
Amakhosi players also failed to impress when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Platinum Stars at FNB Stadium midweek.
Their failure to collect maximum points put more pressure on Komphela as frustrated Amakhosi fans demanded that he resign.
The setback brought back memories of last season’s disappointing campaign that saw Chiefs failing to win a single trophy.
Komphela admitted his players are low on confidence.
The outspoken mentor will need a quick turnaround strategy to pick his players up when they meet PSL rookies, Highlands Park, at Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium on Wednesday.
Said Komphela: “The biggest challenge is selling players a positive message without misleading them about what’s happening.”
Komphela could give winger George Lebese and strikers Michelle Katzavairo and Bernard Parker a chance to start as he hailed them for making an impact when he introduced them against Stars.
Highlands Park will approach the match with their heads held high after having beaten fellow rookies Baroka FC 1-0 at home.
