BROCKIE WANTS OUT!

accreditation

JEREMY Brockie has officially asked to be released from his contract with SuperSport United.

But it’s “request denied” – for now. Matsatsantsa a Pitori chief executive, Stan Matthews, has said: “He is going nowhere, not now. Players must start respecting their contracts.”

The 29-year-old New Zealand striker wants to pursue a dream move to Mamelodi Sundowns, who are reportedly keen, given his striking credentials – three goals so far this term.

Now the superstar is caught in the middle of a transfer saga, with the window officially closing on Thursday.

SunSport’s informants say Brockie has already submitted a letter to Matthews, indicating his intentions to move across the road to Chloorkop.

But Matthews emphasised: “Yes, he officially requested a transfer. But we rejected it. He is not for sale and that is that!”

This is not the first time Sundowns have indicated their interest in the player and they are now seriously pursuing Brockie as they too run the risk of losing their prized asset, Khama Billiat.

Billiat has his sights set on a move to Saudi Arabia in a record-breaking deal.

Said the source: “The season before last Brockie told SuperSport that Sundowns had made him an offer and that he wanted out. But the club requested that he stay for another season.

“He agreed to stay for the 2016-17 season to work with Stuart Baxter. But with Baxter gone, he is sticking to his guns this time.

“SuperSport managed to persuade Brockie to sign a new contract last year. This has made his move more difficult.

“With about three years left on his contract, Sundowns must buy it out.”

And Matthews responded: “If he wanted to leave, then why did he sign a three-year contract? Players must respect contracts.

“I am not going to start running around looking for a striker now. He must just accept it and knuckle down to his duties.”

Head coach Eric Tinkler was hesitant to say anything on the matter on Saturday following their 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United in their MTN8 first leg match at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Supporters smelled a rat on the day when Brockie, who is not suspended or injured, was not part of the SuperSport team.

The match ended in a draw after Lebohang Maboe snatched an away goal to cancel Thuso Phala’s 54th minute strike.

Brockie was also nowhere to be seen in the starting lineup at FNB Stadium midweek, where SuperSport beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in a league match. He only came on as a late substitute.

Brockie is apparently irked because SuperSport are allegedly now backtracking on an initial promise made two years ago.

“That’s an internal matter. You need to ask the club CEO,” was all Tinkler would say at the weekend.

And the CEO said: “Given Brockie’s state of mind right now, he had to be left out of the team against Maritzburg. It is better for him to sit out, as he is not in the right frame of mind.

“Maybe we could consider offers at the end of the current season.”

  • Elsewhere, Rivaldo Coetzee has been forced to return to his club Ajax Cape Town following a failed medical examination at Scottish champions, Glasgow Celtic.

“Following a routine medical examination carried out by the Celtic medical department they discovered an underlying problem with his right foot.

“The clubs were therefore unable to conclude the deal based on the medical information available,” a statement reads.
