FORMER Bafana Bafana striker Siyabonga “Bhele” Nomvethe is on cloud nine about the prospect of playing in the PSL with AmaZulu again.

AmaZulu return to the PSL for the 2017-18 campaign after successfully purchasing Thanda Royal Zulu’s PSL status.

The 39-year-old Nomvethe says he wants to use the opportunity to increase his goal tally in the top flight.

Nomvethe is the current record holder for total goals amassed in all competitions in the top flight with 119 goals.

The veteran striker said he would hit the ground running when the new PSL season kicks off next month.

He said: “I never thought I’d be playing in the PSL again. But another opportunity has come and I’m taking it. I will continue doing what I do best – scoring.”

Added Nomvethe: “This is another chance for me to increase my goal tally. I still have what it takes, I will bring healthy competition to the league. Age is just a number, I’ve still got more seasons in me!”

Last season in the National First Division he finished third on the goal-scoring charts with 17 goals from 24 matches. He was only three goals behind Sedwyn George, who won the Golden Boot award last night for his 30 goals.

He said: “It will be tough because it’s a different environment to the NFD. With hard work it’s possible.”

Nomvethe is not the only veteran making a return to the top flight, Mabhuti Khenyeza will be there too.

The 35-year-old Khenyeza is also among the top five all-time top goal-scorers with 106 goals to his name.
