BAROKA FC captain and defender Olaleng Shaku has warned his teammates not to get complacent after their impressive start to the new season.
Bakgaga, who survived relegation via the play-offs last season, have surprised football lovers with their blistering form this season.
The Limpopo hopefuls currently lead the Absa Premiership table with 15 points after the first seven league matches.
Baroka have won four games, beating Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, Bloemfontein Celtic, Free State Stars and Chippa United respectively.
They drew three matches, with Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City.
Baroka and second placed Golden Arrows are the only teams still unbeaten so far.
Said Shaku: “We need to continue working hard.
“It’s good to be at the top but we still have many games to play and cannot afford to sit back and think we’ve made it. We have not yet achieved our goals for this season.”
The 29-year-old said their aim was to collect as many points as they could and finish in the top eight.
“It’s not nice to fight relegation and we don’t want that to happen again,” he said.
Added the Bakgaga skipper: “We told ourselves this season that we have to collect as many points as we can in the first round.
“We’re not thinking about winning the championship. We don’t want to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure.
“We are just taking it one game at a time.”
Shaku attributed their impressive form to hard work from club management and technical team, which is led by their head coach Kgoloko Thobejane.
“We have learned from last season,” he said.
“Last season we were very nervous and shaky, as it was our first season in the PSL.
“But now we know what is it expected of us.
“The technical team is doing a great job. We are all working hard as a team.”
