IN an effort to make and impact in the Absa Premiership, newly promoted Baroka FC have signed 13 players for the new season.

But the Bakgaga management have taken a leap of faith with their new signings as none of them are from the elite league.

Instead they are players from the lower divisions including the National First Division and the ABC Motsepe League.

The NFD champions unveiled the new players at their player awards ceremony at the weekend.

With their last season’s top goal scorer, Thabiso Kutumela, having left the club for Orlando Pirates, Baroka have opted to get only one striker in his place, Witbank Spurs’ Cleopas Dube.

Tumelo Mogale, James Bell, Richard Matloga, Sipho Moeti, Sediti Tshepo, Siphiwe Gwala and Soso Rethabile will add to coach Kgoloko Thobajane’s midfield, while Xolani Ngcobo and Innocent Mbangeni boost the goalkeeping department.

Mzwanele Mahashe, Leitsisa Tshepiso and Ignitious Kgobadi will beef up the defence.

  • Meanwhile Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs are expected to announce Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Edmore Chirambadare, Mitchel Katsavairo, Sibusiso Khumalo, Joseph Molongoane and Keagan Buchanan as their new players for the coming season at a press conference today.

Kudakwashe Mahachi and Enocent Mkhabela have also been linked to a move to Naturena after a massive clean out in the off-season following Amakhosi’s failure to defend the Absa Premiership and MTN8 titles.

Chiefs, under new coach Steve Komphela, finished a disappointing fifth on the league table.
