LAMONTVILLE Golden Arrows assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi says the team can only get better after having a successful first five opening games of the new campaign. Abafana Bes’thende have managed to secure 10 points in those five matches going into the two week Fifa international break.
The PSL clubs resume action on 15 October when Arrows host Chippa United at the Princes Magogo Stadium.
Ncikazi is convinced that his team will achieve greater things this season.
“If you were to tell me before the season starts that Arrows would have ten points in five matches, I don’t think I would have believed you. But if we were to continue like this collecting ten points in every five matches we would end up with 60 points and that is a championship stats. So far we’ve not done badly but I think we can only get better,” said Ncikazi.
Arrows last won silverware in 2009 when they beat Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the MTN8 and Ncikazi was on the bench assisting then head coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Now assisting Clinton Larsen, Ncikazi thinks Abafana Bes’thende have what it takes to win another trophy this season.
“I admit, we are a new team who just lost eight players and we also have eight new ones. We are happy that those new players are jelling well with others. With the performance of the team so far we are convinced that we can get something this season.
“We also would like to see ourselves securing a top eight spot. Winning a cup would be nice. We last won a cup in 2009 and it is long overdue,” added the former Maritzburg United coach.
