THE NEDBANK Ke Yona Team Search has reached the critical yet exciting stage where players from five different provinces have started undergoing vigorous fitness training and playing friendly matches before the squad is trimmed down.
“BootCamp” is the next phase of the Ke Yona Team Search as the big-name coaches look to assemble a team that can give Nedbank Cup winners SuperSport United a run for their money.
A total of 48 selected players from Gauteng, Free State, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape will battle it out for a chance to make the final 18-man squad that will face SuperSport in September.
Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville saw the new phase of the Ke Yona Team Search get underway when it hosted try-outs that were attended by a multitude of aspiring players, who all want to follow in the footsteps of Ian Chikohwa and the 2015-16 PSL Young Player the Season, Aubrey Modiba.
These two have gone through similar Team Search try-outs and turned a one-game appearance into lucrative careers in the top flight.
Nedbank’s Head of Group Sponsorship and Cause Marketing, Tobie Badenhorst, said it was fulfilling to be able to provide such a platform for positive change in societies. The leading SA bank revealed that more than 2 000 aspiring footballers across Mzansi had taken part in the Team Search.
