Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Faith Mazibuko has commended Gauteng based SuperSport United for winning the Nedbank Cup.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori defeated Orlando Pirates by 3-2 on Saturday at Peter Mokaba Stadium

MEC Mazibuko said: “For SuperSport United to end the season on a high despite their shaky start which saw them losing their coach is highly commendable. It is the stuff champions are made of. They are the true South African Champions in the sense of the word as they had to overcome even teams from the lower ranks and in the PSL for their crown”.

“Their feat has again seen Gauteng soccer teams dominating the league by winning 3 out of 4 competitions in the past season,  increasing their overall success to over 80% since the start of the PSL era in 1997.”

It will be an all Gauteng based clubs participating in next year’s CAF competitions in Sundowns, Wits and SuperSport.

“On behalf of Gauteng we’d like to wish them all the luck in their next journey in the CAF and call upon for everyone to rally behind them as we seek to stamp our foot in continental football”, concluded MEC Mazibuko.
