THANDA ROYAL ZULU CEO, Jomo Biyela, believes Thabiso Nkoana will fit in well with the style of the National First Division (NFD) log leaders.

Yesterday, Biyela confirmed they’ve signed the well-travelled striker until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for another two years.

Nkoana is known for his
ill-disciplined behaviour off the pitch, which has seen him leave teams before the end of his contract.

Biyela said: “We believe in his ability. You can’t become a bad player overnight. He’s only 24 years of age and we believe he can help us achieve our goal this season – which is to gain promotion.

“We also want to help him resuscitate his career.”

Before joining Stellenbosch in September, Nkoana tried his luck with Royal Eagles during the off season. Unfortunately, he was unable to convince Eagles’ head coach Kostadin Papic to sign him.

At 24, Nkoana has already played for three Absa Premiership outfits: SuperSport United, Ajax Cape Town and University of Pretoria.

Thanda will be the second NFD team to play for in one season.

Biyela also said the striker has an opportunity to succeed at the team.

“He brings something different in the team. He’s a natural striker and I believe he will gel well with other players.

“His experience will really come in handy in making sire that we gain promotion.

“He has a month to learn the ropes at the team. On Sunday the team will assemble to start preparing for the last 15 games,” said Biyela.

He added that they parted ways with former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Steven Ncanana, Thulani Khwinana and Thabang Makgabutlane.

Thanda, who are 10 points clear at the top of the NFD table, will play three games in one week when the second half of NFD season begins on 11 February.

They open the year at home with Mbombela United on 12 February and on 15 February they travel to Witbank Spurs and host AmaZulu on 19 February.

Biyela believes if they can collect maximum points in these matches, they will be close to realising their dream of playing in the Premier Soccer League again.
