Cape Town City FC coach Eric Tinkler believes that all the pressure will be on Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their quarter-final MTN8 clash.
In a much different setting, Tinkler faces his old foes in a knock-out round on Friday evening at Cape Town Stadium.
The former Orlando Pirates mentor guided his side to their first competitive victory against Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership clash while Amakhosi found themselves on the losing end against Bidvest Wits.
“Our first target was to ensure we got the three points, so that we start the league well and obviously set ourselves up to come up against a strong and competitive team like Kaizer Chiefs,” said Tinkler on City’s 2-0 victory over Rise and Shine.
Tinkler is adamant that Chiefs’ defeat to the Clever Boys could either work in City’s favour or backfire on Friday night.
“The pressure is still on them (Kaizer Chiefs), they come into this game obviously as favourites and they also come in with the added pressure - the fact that they didn’t win their first league match,” said Tinkler.
“I expect them to come out all guns blazing. It’s going to be an extremely tough game.
“There is certain positives you can take from playing against Chiefs when they just come from a loss but there can also be the negatives, where players come out more motivated, more inspired and obviously we need to be prepared for that.
“I still firmly believe that the pressure is mainly on them and the expectation out there is that they’ll get through this tie relatively easy. We plan to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Tinkler concluded.
Kick-off is at 20:00.
