Last week, the Mogale City Women in Prayer group held its Year
Opening Prayer Day.
This took place at the Mogale City Centenary Hall. Topics included
crime, nyaope, hijacking, corruption, human trafficking and prostitution.
But the main focus was asking God to end the current drought in
Mzansi.
President of the Mogale City Women in Prayer is Councillor
Noluthando Mangole.
She told Sunday Sun: “We’ve seen things that are
foreign emerge in our communities and we can’t sit and fold our arms. We need to
do something.
“The aim of this event is to pray for issues that pose a threat to
our kids’ lives.”
The event attracted more than 300 congregants from various churches
including the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern
Africa, the Anglican Church and the Apostle Church.
Speaking on behalf of Mogale City mayor Calvin Seerane, Councillor
Emily Mathe, said: “As a municipality, we’re extremely happy that churches came
together and prayed for social ills that affect our communities.
“The church has a big role to play in society and as a government
we’ll continue working with churches and other stakeholders in the fight against
crime to improve people’s lives.”
