1 Timothy 4:14-16, New King James Version (NKJV): “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
“Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”
Paul encourages Timothy to take care of the gift within. This means that there is a gift in each of us.
The second part of Proverbs, 18:16 says, “A man’s gift…brings him before great men”.
Gifts are important. Your gift will usher you to greatness if taken care of. Although a gift has potential to make you great, it takes hard work for the gift to serve its intended purpose.
Paul charges Timothy to pay attention; he is encouraging him not to neglect the gift. If you neglect your gift, it will not be profitable. Paul gives a three step process to use it.
The first step is to meditate or to think; the second is to act, and the third is to commit.
As you read this, I urge you to pause and reflect on your own gift, your own hidden potential, your dream and your goal. Commit yourself to the dream and you will succeed.
