Hebrews (12:5-7) says, “And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, or lose heart when He rebukes you. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises everyone He receives as a son.
“Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?
The Lord chastens rebukes, corrects and disciplines those that He loves.”
Although many people might agree that God Almighty rebukes His beloved children, not many rejoice when they are rebuked.
The reality is that God is a Spirit and lives inside human beings. God uses people to correct people.
Hebrews (13:17) says: “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls.”
God has appointed various people over our lives throughout our human journey. He has entrusted our parents with the responsibility to birth us and also of rearing us.
You will realise that none of us grew up without experiencing a reprimand from our parents and elders.
It is often those rebukes that shaped us into who we are today.
At school our teachers rebuked us and at work our managers reprimand us.
God further appointed spiritual leaders such as pastors and gave them a responsibility over lives.
These servants of God are mandated to rebuke us whenever we are out of line.
The Bible says we are to obey them. They watch over our lives; they rule over us; and they will give account to God concerning our lives during judgement.
Are you offended because of chastisement? Then I have this to say to you: embrace the love of those who chasten you.
