MOST families do not deal with anger directly. This results in children being unable to handle the emotion in a healthy and appropriate manner.
When parents deal with anger correctly, they limit the strength of the feeling and prevent destructive behaviour.
What is anger? It is a feeling of displeasure, irritation or dislike that is a reaction to frustration, threat, loss, trauma, sadness or criticism.
What to teach a child:
- Create a peaceful environment in the home and in the child.
- Listen attentively to them and encourage self-expression.
- Do not use labels such as “bad kid” or “ufuze umzali ngokusa”.
- Laughter dilutes anger and is a great distraction for kids.
Dealing with anger gives you the freedom to live a life filled with joy.
Holding on to anger compromises your future aspirations.
