I am the parent of a boy and a girl. We live in a neighbourhood that doesn’t have positive role models. The number of alcohol consumers is high and many people are unemployed. How do I teach my children to want more from life?
There is no recipe for raising successful children. All you can do is equip them with tools to enable them to have advantages in life. Model the kind of behaviour you want to see in your children. Encourage them to participate in sport and join activities where they can learn valuable lessons about teamwork, and build their self-esteem. This will give them decision-making skills. Allow children to make mistakes and encourage them to keep trying even if they have failed.
