For a black African to call another a foreigner is mind boggling, because boundaries and borders are the product of the white man. History teaches us that Bantu people, languages and culture have their roots in kiSwahili, hence we find similar words in Venda, Shangaan, Shona, Zulu and even our customs are similar.
When people look for a better life, as when someone boards a leaking, overloaded boat to cross the Mediterranean Sea, it is a phenomenon also witnessed in the animal kingdom. Locusts, birds, fish and land animals migrate.
In the 1990s there was a heavyweight boxing contest between British boxer Frank Bruno and SA’s Gerrie Coetzee.
The next day’s paper carried a picture of the fight with a caption that read – The European lands a punch on the African.
