Nelson Mandela International Day is a special event on which the world celebrates Madiba’s values and big role he played in Africa’s struggle for liberation, unity, equality and justice.
He had a vision for a non-racial South Africa, a country in which human rights, service to humanity, gender equality and political stability would be fundamental.
This is what the world needs right now. There are widespread inhumane acts and heinous atrocities around the globe.
This is a day when the human race has to embrace peace, love and harmony, and in so doing Africa and the world will not be as hate-infested as they have been.
Mandela was a determined and brave leader who had a vision – a vision so vast that he sacrificed his freedom so that those who lived in it lived in peace. He fought against racism and stigma of any form. Protection of women and youth development were on his agenda, and he discouraged violence.
He came, served, inspired change, united masses and instilled love among us – and with that his legacy lives on. Let’s raise our fists high and celebrate the life of a great freedom fighter and his selfless struggle.
Mzansi, stand up and unite for what is right and promote humanity through tolerance. Let there be unity, equality, respect and most of all love in our communities so that Mandela’s legacy lives on.
Shanai Allie, Laudium
With all the challenges Mzansi faces daily, and apparent lack of leadership, Madiba would have surely led the way. We should continue to pay tribute to him and celebrate his life. This letter wins R200. – Editor
