I would like to take this moment to thank community radio presenters and staff.
Having worked for a number of community radio stations, I fully understand the hard work these people put into their work, with limited resources.
They’re paid stipends or nothing at all. The lack of management skills also contributes to the poor performance at these stations.
People talk about job creation but what is done to help these hard-working presenters and staff at local radio stations?
I think it’s high time the government supported these stations because they entertain, inform and educate communities.
The Media Development and Diversity Agency’s funding is not doing justice when it comes to helping community stations.
What worries me the most is the millions wasted by the agency. That money could help improve working conditions.
