I was really touched and disturbed by the story of Siyabonga Cekethe (4) in yesterday’s Daily Sun.
It’s shocking that the young boy’s fingers will be amputated all because of cruel izinyoka.
There’s nothing as painful as seeing your child or relative dying or losing one of their vital body parts because of someone’s cruelty.
The power utility is trying by all means to make safety their first priority, but some people are risking others’ lives.
Why is stealing cables in South Africa so easy?
This bad behaviour is also affecting essential services such as health care, the supply of water and the transport system.
Izinyoka should bear in mind that electricity plays a vital role in today’s life.
It’s the backbone of many things in the country, so it must always be available. Just imagine spending two days without drinking water or having a bath.
Izinyoka must stop their bad behaviour! To hear people complaining and crying as a result of izinyoka is not necessary.
People should think before they commit crime.
I’d like to urge South Africans to report any suspicious activity to the relevant power utility to save lives.
People walking around with cutting tools are the most obvious ones. From now on, Siyabonga is going to face a tough future because of people who connect electricity illegally. Enough is enough of cable theft!
