The number of illegal immigrants in South Africa has reached an alarming level.
It’s confusing and embarrassing to hear the outgoing AU chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma suggesting that African borders should be removed to enable free movement across the continent.
This move will not benefit South Africa.
In fact, Mzansi will be negatively affected by it.
We have already failed to control the influx of illegal foreigners into the country, and now Dlamini-Zuma wants to give these foreigners a free pass.
They will all flock to Mzansi and create havoc. This will hurt us, especially on the economic aspect.
Furthermore, we live in a democratic country. Authorities should not make decisions for us, they must consult with people on the ground before imposing these foreigners on us.
This can be loosely interpreted as dictatorship.
Under no circumstances should my opinion be interpreted as xenophobic, I’m just stating the facts.
Dlamini-Zuma and her committee members should go back to the drawing board. This is not on.
