It seems some small tavern owners don’t see the danger they cause by selling alcohol to underage people.
At some taverns, you’ll find a 12-year-old kid drunk at night.
Those tavern owners don’t have the best interest of our children at heart.
If it was their own kids, I doubt if they would accept this bad behaviour.
Children are our future leaders and they should be nurtured at all costs. Parents must also play a role in this issue. How do you sleep at night while your under-18-year-old is not at home?
Parents should educate their kids about the dangers of alcohol. Some parents even send their children to buy them alcohol. That is wrong!
Parents, don’t drink in front of children. Alcohol ruins lives. The government must not only advertise in the media about underage drinking, they must go to the taverns to see if they are licensed to sell alcohol and if they are not selling to underage people.
I urge the cops to patrol taverns every weekend and eventually we will defeat this problem.
As the youth, I think we know about the dangers of underage drinking, but we are just being ignorant. Alcohol won’t get you the perfect job, house or family but it will ruin your life.

In what world is it okay to sell alcohol to underage drinkers? Such people should spend time in a jail cell thinking about what they have done! This letter wins R200.– Deputy Editor
