BLACK SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL!

accreditation

Skin lightening has become a trend in South Africa. A lot of people have their own reasons for doing it. Some have medical reasons while others think a lighter skin will make them more beautiful and socially acceptable.

In many African cultures, light-skinned women are known as yellow bones. In order for dark-skinned women to fit in, they buy skin lightening products from vendors who promise miracles.

A lot of women are not aware of the health hazards associated with using these often dangerous bleaching products.

Even celebrities are lightening their skins, like TV personality and actress Khanyi Mbau and former kwaito star Mshoza.

This treatment includes the use of pills, soap, supplements, surgery and injections. The ingredients often include mercury, hydroquinone and corticosteroid, which can burn and permanently damage skin.

The idea that a dark skin is not beautiful, and that being light-skinned can open doors for you to be loved, is wrong.

Let’s learn to embrace and love ourselves for who we are.
