WHEN Nkululeko Mzobe left home with a friend on Saturday, no one suspected he would soon be dead.
When the 25-year-old didn’t come home, his relatives went looking for him and found bloodstains in the nearby bush.
They called the police, and the 27-year-old friend that Nkululeko had been with was arrested.
However, his body was nowhere to be found.
On Monday, residents were shocked when his body was found buried in a shallow grave at Hibberdene beach, on the south coast of KZN.
It’s alleged that Nkululeko’s friend beat him on the head with a piece of metal during a fight and then buried him.
Nkululeko’s aunt, Eunice Mzobe (52), said it was sad that he had allegedly been killed by a friend.
“The suspect was like family to us. He spent most of his time with us. We heard the fight started at a tavern.”
Councillor Zethu Shozi said: “How could a young man do something like this? The victim was at home on Saturday when the suspect came and asked him to accompany him,” he said.
“They allegedly argued and fought. Fortunately, locals witnessed the fight from a distance and were later able to assist the cops.”
Police spokeswoman Colonel Themeka Mbhele said the suspect pointed out the shallow grave on Monday.
“Search and rescue members of the police started digging and soon the naked body of the victim was visible. He had sustained a wound to the head.
“A case of murder was opened and the suspect will soon appear in the Hibberdene Magistrates Court,” she said.
