ZIMBABWEANS: END THE FAMILY BUSINESS!

accreditation

THE SunTeam spoke to Zimbabweans in Joburg to ask them how they felt about the alleged coup in their country of birth.

Many said President Robert Mugabe was an oppressor. Not all of them were willing to give names, fearing they’d be victimised.

Samson Chanetsa
  • Samson Chanetsa said: “We think this was long overdue. Mugabe overstayed his welcome. It was like a family business.”

It would be best for the army to stay on for six months until Zimbabweans decided what was best.

He couldn’t say who should take over as the MDC, the main opposition, had failed.

He didn’t want a new person in power as he didn’t want Zimbabwe to make the same mistakes as West Africans.

Passmore Jongwe
  • Passmore Jongwe (47) said: “The people you’re seeing here, most of them have run away from the Mugabe regime. We need that madala to step down tomorrow, today or even while I’m talking to you. We need a new government.”
Gertrude Chitambatambe
  • Gertrude Chitambatambe said: “We’ve been suffering from 1980 until now. If you look at what Mugabe is doing with his wife, they are using Zimbabwe like a toy and we no longer want that.”
    Agnes Mafuta
    • Agnes Mafuta said: “Our father, President Mugabe, is not a very bad person. “He tried his best but now he’s old and can’t continue the way he used to.”
    Kalvin Adonia
    • Kalvin Adonia said: “I don’t have a problem with what is happening in Zimbabwe. “As a Zimbabwean citizen, I desire to see change, transformation and things getting better.”
