THE Springs Magistrate's Court heard that Eskom employee Thembisile Yende was killed for trying to expose illegal activities at Eskom.
A key witness of the court told investigating officers that Yende was going to expose her alleged killer, David Ngwenya, for illegal copper deals.
The investigating officer Christo Lotz told the court that Yende was drugged in order to weaken her.
She was later taken to a sub-station where she was beaten, strangled, and killed.
The state opposed Ngwenya's release on bail yesterday and wanted the bail application postponed due to outstanding documents.
Ngwenya, a technician at Eskom, was arrested in Carletonville last week Thursday for the alleged murder of Yende.
According to the witness, Ngwenya was allegedly in a romantic relationship with Yende.
The decomposing body of Yende was found in an office at the isolated Eskom Pietersboth substation in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
She had been reported missing for days and was discovered by Eskom workers who picked up a rotten smell over after a week she was reported missing.
Ngwenya's bail application is underway in the Springs Magistrate's Court today.
A key witness told the police that Yende was killed because she knew of Ngwenya's copper dealings and was about to report his activities.
