A DOMESTIC worker who allegedly stole R50 000 from her employer’s home is in hot water. The 37-year-old was due to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court today on a charge of theft.

Durban Central police spokesman Captain Khephu Ndlovu said the worker’s boss kept the money at his home in Kingsford, in the Durban CBD.

“When the employer realised the money was missing he reported the matter to cops.

“He had last seen the money on 20 July and realised it had gone missing last Tuesday,” said Ndlovu.

The domestic worker was arrested on Thursday when cops went to her house in Cato Manor, where they searched and found the money under a mattress.

“They recovered an amount of 47 200. She had allegedly spent R2 800. She has been kept in custody since then,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu praised the cops for the swift
arrest, saying: “The prompt and thorough attention given to the matter resulted in the arrest and recovery of the money.”
