THABISA Melani said she will always be grateful to three women who saved her from being raped.
The 39-year-old from New Brighton kasi, Port Elizabeth was attacked when she went to the toilet while attending a Human Rights Day celebration at Vuyisile Mini Square yesterday.
She told Daily Sun: “As I was approaching the toilet, I saw two young men coming towards me.
“They pushed me against the door and told me to undress because they wanted to see my panties.
“I asked them why they wanted to see my underwear and one of them said he wanted to have a look at my punani. They manhandled me and I screamed loudly.
“I was lucky that three women came to my rescue and the evil men ran away.”
One of the women, Sikwamkele Vandala, said they were attending mayor Athol Trollip’s rally when they heard Thabisa screaming as they passed the toilet.
“When we got to her we saw two thugs running towards Central. We shouted for someone to arrest them. We are happy she wasn’t hurt.”
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans advised Thabisa to open a case of attempted rape.
