KASI residents are battling to breathe because of the stink.
People from Soweto-On-Sea in Port Elizabeth are being troubled by overflowing sewage which has formed a stream between their homes.
Noluthando Mafu (33) told the People’s Paper: “We live in a pigsty. This drain has been overflowing for over six years.
“It is stinking and we can’t open our doors and windows. It has been like this for many years and we want change.
“Every time we report it, municipal workers come and fix it. But it only works for a few days and then it all starts again.”
She said: “We can’t even use our toilet when this drain is blocked. It overflows into our kitchen. To avoid that we are forced to remove the lid of the toilet pipe outside so it does not flow into the house.”
The unhealthy conditions also have affected their health.
Sisana Toyi (25) said: “All this sewage comes into my shack.
“It has been like this for many years. We don’t know how to fix it. My skin is itching because of a rash caused by these wet conditions.
“I am also worried because my daughter is always sick,” she said.
Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said: “They must report this to our toll free number 0800 20 50 50 and we will give them a reference number.”
