RESIDENTS of a squatter camp in Naledi, Soweto are tired of breathing stale and stinking air caused by rotten skop bones and gravy.
“We inhale filthy air on a daily basis. When I wake up, I don’t even want to open my door or go outside because the smell is terrible,” said Evelyn Khena (40).
“I have to buy Doom almost every week because I cannot stand the flies.”
Evelyn told Daily Sun that it is unfair that their children play in the dirt because they have nowhere else to play.
“We asked the owner of the business to move elsewhere or learn to clean up after himself. He told us we are jealous because we did not think of opening a business like his and now that we see he is making money, we want him to leave.”
Evelyn said the owner does not live in the area but only comes there to run his business.
When Daily Sun spoke to the owner of the business, Patrick Khoza (38), he said he was very sorry about his carelessness and said he’ll start cleaning up. He also asked the SunTeam to apologise to the community because he can’t afford to lose his business.
