"We are strongly and humbly calling on all ANC revolutionaries with conscience to put our differences aside and place the principles and the interest of our beloved organisation and country first for the sake of our future."
Friends of delegates from Ethekwini in Kwazulu-Natal told Daily Sun on Saturday outside the Nasrec Expo Centre that they are fully behind Cyril Ramaphosa to take over as president.
They said they are not supporters of individuals but of the organisation.
Chairperson of Ward 80 in Ethekwini municipality Zamani Pro Mthethwa disputed the current figures from KZN which are said to be behind Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Mthethwa, who is also chairperson of Sanco in Ward 80, told Daily Sun the numbers presented by the KZN PEC were bogus.
"They were twisted to suit a particular agenda," he said.
The men said they want Cyril to take over as president of the ANC and they believe he is the right man to unite the organisation.
Asked why they are not supporting the view of their PEC, Mthethwa said that in the ANC there is no conformity.
The ANC is a democratic organisation and we don't have to conform because there are divergent views in the democratic organisation - we are free to express our own opinion..there is nothing as a specific position.
They are confident and hopeful that Cyril will emerge victorious.
"We have also held prayers to ask for God and the ANC ancestors to intervene and clear the confusion and help the Rainbow nation which is being torn apart as we speak," said Mthethwa.
They said their support for Cyril is proof that people from KZN are not tribalists., adding the ANC is a non-racial and non-tribal organisation.
